Floating Hotel Planned Off Miami’s Coast

A vacation rental company is planning to launch floating homes off Miami’s coast, according to Bloomberg.

The floating vacation homes are eventually planned to be linked together to form a resort, the founder of the company said.

Each 2,380 square foot, 2-bedroom home is expected to rent for $1,200 to $1,600 a night (an exact layout and number of bedrooms hasn’t been finalized).

The initial plan is for a captain will take the home out to sea before returning on a tender, leaving the guests on their own. Deliveries would be made by a bellman on a motorboat.

Docking space at the Vice City Marina in Brickell is planned to be used when the villas are not at sea.

The floating home is manufactured by Arkup.

Arkup claims the homes are hurricane proof. They are equipped with hurricane glass and "spuds," which are retractable stabilizing columns that go 20-feet deep.

A larger model by the same manufacturer has also been used as a rental by the same vacation rental company.

Some area residents complained about the larger model, according to ReMiamiBeach. However state law prohibits cities from regulating houseboats in their territory.

Sextant Stays, which has grown from 60 to over 500 units during the pandemic, is the company planning the new floating rentals.

Arkup is a joke, have they even sold their first unit? They go around the bay, stabbing those four "spuds" that kill anything in their path below the surface.

A floating hotel in Miami would be super cool. Kind of like the Maldives Resorts but with a big city skyline in the background. One thing is for sure, it is going to be super expensive.

This idea mixed with Stiltsville or something to help use Biscayne Bay in a way that more people can use it while preserving it is what we should be focused on.

The word ‘iconic’ was not used to describe this, so it has a chance of being a success.
