Welcome to Las Catalinas, a newly constructed beach town nestled along the golden coast of Guanacaste in Costa Rica. Our purpose is to create a vibrant community focused on a balanced lifestyle of health, sustainability, fun, and fulfillment.

Las Catalinas consists of homes, shops, restaurants, small hotels and inns, plazas, parks, and recreational facilities. We have arranged these elements to create a series of wonderful, walkable public spaces interwoven with our breathtaking natural surroundings. Architecture is adapted for outdoor living. Motorized vehicles are refreshingly absent.

One side of our town is embraced by over 1,000 acres of tropical dry forest, with spectacular hills and valleys that afford extensive hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. On the other, you'll find two of Costa Rica's finest beaches offering great swimming, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, boogie-boarding, and snorkeling.

We believe that Las Catalinas is one of the most important and beautiful new towns in the world. We extend a warm invitation to personally experience the charm of our walkable tropical village for yourself.

Explore

Sea Kayaking & Stand-up Paddle-Boarding

Las Catalinas is an ideal location for sea kayaking and SUP. Playa Danta’s protected bay is perfect for beginners, with its glassy, smooth conditions. The area offers lots of places to explore by kayak or paddleboard, including beaches to the north and south.

Designing a Walkable Street

The car-free streets of Las Catalinas wind and twist slightly, drawing the eye around corners. A trip across town is broken up into small chunks, each with a "reward" (such as a plaza or fountain) at the end, making the walk feel shorter and more interesting.

Supercharged Walkability

Making our streets car-free was the most radical decision we made in designing Las Catalinas. Both residents and visitors are reaping the benefits, which include safety, beauty, sociability, quiet, a cleaner environment, better-looking buildings, and improved health.

Tropical Mountain Biking

Our world-class, single-track trails have unrivaled ocean views, making Las Catalinas a prominent mountain biking destination in Costa Rica. Follow enjoyable swoops deep into the shade of our quiet valleys, as you observe fascinating flora and fauna.

Custom Tile Work

Homes in Las Catalinas make artful use of custom tiles, produced on-site or by Costa Rican artisans. Tiles can serve as accents, unifying elements, or even centerpieces. From subtle to eye-catching, custom tiles complement the atmosphere of a residence.

Being Well

Las Catalinas offers a slower, more deliberate way of life that allows residents and visitors to reconnect with themselves, others, and nature. Physical spaces, both natural and man-made, foster a sense of calm, greater awareness, and joy.

The Woodshop

Woodwork is essential to the architectural character of Las Catalinas. From structural items to small details, wood contributes to the town’s unique beauty. Cabinets, doors, windows, and custom furnishings are crafted on-site, using local, native woods.

Desayuno Típico

Desayuno típico is Costa Rica’s "typical breakfast." Enjoyed in sodas (local restaurants) and homes, this simple meal that balances essential nutrients usually consists of gallo pinto (beans and rice), fruit, fried plantains, eggs, corn tortillas, and natilla (sour cream).

Discover

Las Catalinas started with a vision—a new vision of the "the good life." This life is one of ecological responsibility and sustainability, of social cohesion and personal connection. Las Catalinas was created to promote a healthy way of living, in which we nurture our physical selves and are physically active, and in which we celebrate and revel in the beauty of nature. As

it turns out, this way of living is intimately dependent on the design and function of where we live. Las Catalinas was conceived and constructed to realize this idea.

"Residents and visitors live a stone’s throw from ocean-view restaurants, an outdoor adventure outfitter, an upscale grocery with a wine cellar, a day spa and clothing and furniture shops."

— The New York Times
