Architectural Conservation— Historic Entrances and Plazas
City of Coral Gables, Florida
Conservation of historic finishes at seven plazas and entrances in Coral Gables was performed under a subcontract with Reddoor Construction, GC. Balboa Plaza, Columbus Plaza, Commercial Entrance, Granada Entrance, Granada Plaza, Ponce de Leon Plaza and Segovia Plaza were examined by RLA as part of an overall role as Historic Preservation/ Conservation specialists on the project. All documentation, preparation of treatment protocols, completion of profile drawings, materials research for matching the historic finishes, and regular onsite supervision was performed by the firm. Hands-on conservation included cleaning all historic surfaces, removing vegetation and biological growth, removing black atmospheric staining, undoing previous inappropriate repairs, stabilizing cracks, filling losses, cleaning and coating exposed rebar, pinning loose elements, and repointing mortar losses.
